This qualification provides essential training for individuals aspiring to become Plant Operators in the construction industry. It is suitable even for those without current employment, focusing on the development of practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Learners are assessed based on National Occupational Standards, ensuring industry relevance. This qualification supports progression into advanced training, apprenticeships, or direct employment.

Key Components

• Mandatory Unit: Site safety and roles and responsibilities for plant operators.
• Provides a pathway to the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Construction Civil Engineering - Plant Operations and other qualifications, such as the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plant Operations and the Level 1 Award in Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

This structured qualification equips learners with the necessary skills for various plant operation roles in construction.

Qualification Structure

To achieve this qualification, learners must complete 19 credits from one of the optional groups below:

Option Group 1: Excavator 180 (Below 5 Tonnes)

• Operating an excavator 180 below 5 tonnes
• Practical assessment on excavation and loading duties

Option Group 2: Excavator 180 (Above 5 Tonnes)

• Operating an excavator 180 above 5 tonnes
• Practical assessment on excavation duties

Option Group 3: Rough Terrain Forklift

• Operating a rough terrain forklift
• Practical assessment on stacking, lifting, and load transfer

Option Group 4: Telescopic Handler

• Operating a telescopic handler
• Practical assessment on stacking, lifting, and transferring loads

Option Group 5: Wheeled Loading Shovel

• Operating a wheeled loading shovel
• Practical assessment on loading, extracting, and forming duties

Option Group 6: Skid Steer Loader

• Operating a skid steer loader
• Practical assessment on loading, extracting, and forming duties

Option Group 7: Agricultural Tractor

• Operating an agricultural tractor
• Practical assessment on tasks using towed and mounted implements

Option Group 8: Excavator 360 (Below 10 Tonnes)

• Operating an excavator 360° below 10 tonnes
• Practical assessment on excavation, loading, and reinstatement

Option Group 9: Excavator 360 (Above 10 Tonnes)

• Operating an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes
• Practical assessment on excavation and loading duties
