Overview

This qualification assesses your skills and knowledge against National Occupational Standards. A qualified assessor will support you throughout the process to help you achieve your certification. It equips learners with essential practical skills and theoretical understanding for plant operations in excavation.

Mandatory Units

• Conforming to General Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Workplace
• Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace

Optional Units (Choose One)

• Preparing and operating wheeled loading shovels
• Preparing and operating skid steer loaders
• Preparing and operating suction and vacuum excavators

This qualification is supported by the Construction Plant Association (CPA).

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications or prior training are required.

Progression

This qualification enables career advancement into supervisory or management roles and provides eligibility for higher-level qualifications. Industry recognizes this certification as sufficient for job entry.

Qualification Structure

• Minimum Credits: 25
• Total Qualification Time (TQT): 250 hours
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 84 hours

To achieve certification, learners must complete two mandatory units plus one optional unit.

Assessment & Grading

Assessment is based on performance and knowledge statements, evaluated by a qualified assessor. Learners must compile a Portfolio of Evidence demonstrating competency. This qualification is not graded.
